Substance Abuse:

I suspect my teen is using drugs. How can I be certain?
If you suspect it, it’s probably true. To be certain, a urine test and an evaluation will usually expose the facts.

Where can my child go for a urine test?
You can take your child to a doctor’s office or to Hope House.

Prevention:

How can I talk to my child about drugs and alcohol?
There is no bad way to talk to your children about drugs and alcohol. If you are really uncertain about how to approach your child, you can consult a substance abuse professional to discuss what would be appropriate.

Chore:

How long does a new chore client have to wait before receiving services?
A frail senior or a disabled individual may now wait a year or more before receiving Chore services. Demand far exceeds the capacity of the program. Committed volunteers and sponsors of the Adopt a Grandparent program would help alleviate the wait.

Is there another program like Chore in Morris County?
At the present time there is no other program providing this service to individuals who cannot afford to pay a fee.

Operation Fix-It:

Do you build ramps?
Due to the scope of this project, the number of volunteers needed, and the amount of building approvals necessary, Hope House does not build ramps. Operation Fix-It does, however, repair stairs and handrails.

AIDS:

What is AIDS?
AIDS stands for acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is a disease caused by a virus that damages a person’s ability to fight off disease. AIDS by itself does not kill, but it allows other infections (such as pneumonia, cancer, and other illnesses) to invade the body and these can kill.

How do I know if I have the HIV virus?
A 20 minute test is available with an oral swab. Contact our Mobile Van Unit.

Where can I be tested for HIV/AIDS?
   Morristown Memorial Hospital, 973-971-8910
   St. Michael’s Medical Center, 973-877-5525
   St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center, 973-754-4720
   Hyacinth AIDS Foundation, 908-755-0021

Will anyone know that I am being tested or learn of the results?
The procedure and the results are strictly confidential.
